Sequoia and Kings Canyon Private 1-Day Tour

About this experience

One price covers your whole group of up to six, and nobody else joins. You ride in a Toyota Highlander Hybrid with a driver-guide, pickup and drop-off are at the place you choose, and the listing promises a relaxed pace with plenty of time for photos. The Sequoia and Kings Canyon entrance fees are included, along with bottled water. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before.

The listed stops run north to south. On the Kings Canyon National Park side you visit the Kings Canyon Visitor Center in Grant Grove (about 30 minutes) and walk for about an hour to the General Grant Tree, which President Coolidge named the Nation's Christmas Tree in 1926. Next comes the Redwood Mountain Overlook, then about 2 hours at the General Sherman Tree in Giant Forest, the drive through the Tunnel Log and the granite staircase up Moro Rock. Cedar Grove, the deep valley that gave Kings Canyon its name, is not on the itinerary.

It is a young listing: four reviews so far, all five stars. Guests say the drivers are careful and attentive; one helped a guest's husband up the path to the General Grant Tree, and another guest saw squirrels, deer and a bear. The sample itinerary on the listing starts with a pickup in Los Angeles and about 4.5 hours in the SUV; from Fresno the run is far shorter, about 1 hour 15 minutes to the Big Stump Entrance per the NPS. For a Los Angeles departure with sunset at Moro Rock, see the private day tour from LA.

It was GREAT! Our driver/guide was excellent! He kept in touch to be sure we were picked on time at our hotel. He provided water the trip [...] He cared for all our needs and even pushed my handicapped husband up the path to General Grant. He is an excellant driver. We felt safe at all times.

I was finally able to realize a long-held dream of visiting this place. [...] I was lucky enough to encounter plenty of squirrels, three deer, and even a bear. I also wanted to go hiking in the mountains, and having that wish granted made for an unforgettable experience [...] Thank you very much Ruslan

Tips before you book

  • Non-US residents: the NPS says the US$100 nonresident fee for visitors aged 16+ also applies on commercial tours. Ask the operator whether it is part of the included entrance fees for your group.
  • In winter, the Generals Highway between Lodgepole and Grant Grove is often closed by snow from early January to mid-March, per the NPS, which can change the route between the two parks.
  • Moro Rock is a granite staircase. Tell the driver-guide in advance if anyone in the group prefers to wait at the bottom.
  • Bring layers: the NPS gives Giant Forest and Grant Grove an average October high of about 61°F (16°C).
  • Read our Sequoia vs Kings Canyon guide to see what each park adds.
